I disagree with this statement.  5 PPM is fairly easy to achieve via simple 
crystal replacement, which you can do yourself.  Occasionally you'll run 
into an element that was compensated for a crystal with an "extreme" curve, 
& your crystal's curve will significantly mismatch that curve.  In that 
case, you can send the Icom in or simply try a different Icom.

Not true.  In most (not all) cases, it will.  That's been my experience in 
working with Mastr IIs over the years.

If you want guaranteed 2 or 5 PPM accuracy, by all means send the Icoms in 
for  installation & compensation.  At the prices ICM charges for this 
service nowdays (~$100/pair I'm told), it might be worth considering the 
cheaper alternative.
