Depends on the configuration. And you don't always need a lot of gain. You 
should choose the antenna for the application. I've got a four-bay, four 
element array that gives me 9 dBd gain in the direction of the elements (all 
pointed the same direction). I didn't want to needlessly send RF in an area 
with no users.
