Search Digikey for "DB9" & you'll get hundreds of matches.  Try "DA9" or 
"DE9" & you'll get nothing.

Right or wrong, the term "DB9" is widely & unambiguously used to describe 
the 9 pin connector typically found, among other places, on the back of 
computers as the serial port connector.
