Chris, I have set up both a Kenwood TKR-750K2 and a Motorola R1225 repeater in Amateur 2m service with a 600 kHz split, and have no problems with either. With the Kenwood, you must follow the service manual instructions to manually tune the front end coils for optimum receive sensitivity; the R1225 has no internal adjustments. With either repeater, throw away the factory-supplied RG-58 jumper harness and use RG-400/U double-shielded cable without any adapters for connections to the radio.
