Here’s a quick rule of thumb as far as cable bend radius.

 

The Electronic Industries Association / Telecommunications Industries
Association specify that the worst-case cable radius of any cable that is
compliant, is 20x the outer jacket diameter for any cable under pulling
strain.  This is used for selecting a pulley sheave for pulling cables
around corners.  A cable under no strain can be radiused at 10x its outer
jacket diameter.   So your ½” heliax should not be bent tighter than a 5”
RADIUS.  That’s a 10” diameter circle.  I’ve seen it bent quite a bit
tighter.  The danger (besides kinking) is a change of impedance.  It’s
visible on a TDR.

 

We use this rule at work for fiber-optic cables.  Only a very few specific
cables seem to allow a tighter bend radius.

Hi Scott, 

If you saw a previous post... I mention the soft flexible coax 
line foam vs the more firm or hard foam found in rigid coax... 
aka hardline. 

There are bend radius specs given for most good/higher end 
flex and rigid coaxial cables. Just a web page search away 
depending on the brand and model number.
