Steve,

Motorola recognized this problem a long time ago, and has a fix: Stabilant
22A. The suggested action was to first thoroughly clean the contacts using
a Gold Guard Pen or equivalent, and then using a sterile cotton swab
moistened with Stabilant 22A to wet the contacts just before mating the
connector. Almost like magic, the problem disappeared. This stuff is not
just a solvent/cleaner like De-Ox-it or similar wannabes, but is a unique
polymer solution.

You can buy Stabilant 22A directly from a number of suppliers, or you can
order it from Motorola Parts as #1180384V93, for about $45. I bought a 15
mL vial of Stabilant 22A five years ago, and have used less than half of it.
Yes, it is very expensive, but a little goes a long way. When properly
applied, it works as advertised.

My disclaimer of any financial interest in the product applies; I use it and
am a satisfied customer.

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Micor Ribbon Cable

We have a VHF Micor, and during cold weather like we have now, we lose
the audio level and it seems that our RF ouput is down. I go to the
site. power off the Micor, reseat the 50 conductor ribbon cable on the
back end of all three chassis, and all seems to be better for a while.
But it returns.

Has anyone experienced this before, and how did they resolve it?

Thanks
Steve
