Take it apart and look to see if water found its way to the loading coil. Acid rain, or water and RF, will eat the leads of the small capacitors off. If lightning hit close, the small caps could be blown off, leaving two leads and a small puff of ceramic dirt behind. Mobile antennas are tough to get apart without ruining them.
