No, they can't. I had to try to make one work at a comm. site on a 5,200 ft. mountaintop. Had a DCI bandpass filter AND a 10 dB pad in front of it (the TX & RX were separated internally), but we still got lots of 3rd order IMD from sources on OTHER mountaintops. Also had problems with the IF filtering, causing the squelch to close on reasonably strong signals when a strong signal 15 kHz away was present. In short, one of the poorest receivers I've ever worked with. TX was OK though, just throw a fan on the heat sink. Bob NO6B
