This reminds me of something that happened to me about 10 years ago. I was sitting at home when my phone rang. It was the representative of a local repeater group in the Oregon area called "Western Oregon Radio Club" which is a part of the "Evergreen Intertie".
They were complaining because I was "illegally" re-transmitting their swap net on my repeater. I argued that I was not doing it. After some time I finally figured out that another repeater which was linked up to my repeater was monitoring the Western Oregon Radio Club Evergreen Intertie swap net on thier remote base, and since they were linked up with my repeater, that is why it was coming across my output. The person from the Wester oregon group (who is now deceased) told me it was illegal to re-transmit their signal. I asked them where in the amateur regulations I would find that rule, and he told me they had a copy right on all their transmissions. We continued with the re-transmissions for several weeks, with them whinning & complaining for a long time. You be the judge, cool or not cool? Just a few months ago, KJ7IY, a member of the Oregon Region Relay Council and member of the Western Oregon Radio Club, got a UHF ham repeater shut down for several days stating it was an illegal repeater because it was not coordinated. I talked to the site management organization & informed they that KJ7IY gave incorrect information and that coordination is suggested but not a legal requirement and the repeater was turned back on. You be the judge, cool or not cool? About 8 years ago my son was operating under my callsign with me as a control operator on a repeater of the Western Oregon Radio Club. While my (12 year old son) was having a nice conversation on the radio, the control operator shut off the repeater.
