I always thought it had to do with "Casey at bat"...  as there was "no joy" in 
Mudville when the Mighty Casey struck out.

did not work, hi. It is used basically to say the results we were looking for 
did not.

  Now "no Joy" might mean we did not find Joy where we thought she would be.
