Tony, Every cel site I've visited here has its own generator and fuel now. The site my 2m repeater is on has 5 cel carriers and each have right on the equipment plat forms a generator, at least 10 kW, with at least 500 gal fuel tank.
This is a 3 FM site and they also have their own large generators. 10 years ago a typical cel site did about $650/ hr average business. Probably 3 times that today. A site down for 4 hours can buy a good generator. This is not an additional cost, but a cost effective one paying for itself very quickly. 73, ron, n9ee/r >From: "Tony L." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Date: 2007/10/16 Tue PM 04:32:06 CDT >To: [email protected] >Subject: [Repeater-Builder] New FCC Ruling May Benefit Many Ham Repeaters >Located At Cell Sites > >If your repeater is located at a cell site, check this out: > >October 16, 2007 - A Federal Communications Commission representative >said today that to meet national concerns for adequate public safety >communications, it had adopted an order reinforcing and clarifying a >prior order requiring cell phone and landline carriers within one >year to install power backup supplies at all of their sites and to >have portable power supplies available for sites that are incapable >of having power backup. > >The ruling will clearly benefit the economic growth of generator, >battery and fuel cell suppliers as well as installation contractors >throughout the country.
