Re: Uniden SMS Radios For what it is, the Uniden SMS Series Radio is a pretty good dollar value on the used radio market. For a fair amount of time Uniden became a fairly large player in the 800/900 band LMR equipment. Typical of some LMR Companies the powers at the helm abandoned ship for greener pastures.
I have modified a few of the various 800/900 band Uniden SMS radios for use with CTCSS operation. It was not easy nor practical for the average Joe. I was interested in CTCSS Transmit Operation only (as a temp repeater transmitter) so I can tell you half of what needs to be done. Email me direct if you're serious about using an SMS Radio with TX CTCSS and I'll tell you how I did it.
