While I haven't deployed one yet, I've had a couple of long conversations on the phone with Al about them, and his engineering skills are top-notch. He originally started the project to "fix" a local problem in his area... they had MASTR II's and wanted to add CTCSS decode. He realized that all the signals needed to put a custom repeater controller in the card shelf of a MASTR II were already there, so he put together one for his local club. Then he posted here once, and had quite a few interested parties for such a thing, and it gained a life of its own from there. He's added some nice features since then to the latest units. I wish the project to swap one of those into one of our low-use UHF repeaters that we keep on-air for testing/experimentation would bubble to the top of the stack, but other things keep jumping on top of the pile!
