Julio, the best way to set up an in-band link is to
set the CTCSS transmit on the repeater to only work
while a user is on the input of the repeater. You can
then install a link radio back at the club site that
has both tone encode and decode capability. This will
allow the VOIP system to see only a users transmission
and not the courtesy tone and ID from the repeater.
I have used this set up on several repeaters and find
it to be the easiest to operate with a minimum of
delays necessary to make a smooth system.
The next best way for in-band linking it to insure
that the tone transmission from a user is passed
through to the output of the repeater with very little
attenuation. Again, a link radio at the club house
with tone encode and decode will eliminate the signals
from the repeater while allowing the voice to be
linked. Using a higher frequency tone will help when
this option is used. 100 Hz works OK, but another
system I have in service using a 151.4 tone works very
well. I have CAT-300 controllers on both these
systems and they seem to pass the tone frequency very
well. A repeater that filters off the input tone and
adds its own output tone will not work this way, and
must be modified to only output the tone while a user
is present on the input.
