Got to one of the sites today, and it was still cold and not
transmitting.  I carefully applied heat from a trouble light to
various sections of the transmitter while noting power output behavior.  

I believe I may have narrowed it down to the oscillator section,
specifically the oscillator transistor.  While carefully touching my
warmed-on-a-lamp finger to the transistor, the output consistently
moved to normal.  I have the box on my bench now, and working on a mod
to keep the oscillator active while keying another stage, perhaps the
following buffer.

I will have to see if there is objectionable leakage, and otherwise
make sure it still works normally.  I will keep you informed on how
this works out.  

I have not witnessed low audio with cold temps as you have.
