Back in the 80's, one of the local repeaters here used DVR tracks for
courtesy tones. One of the control ops got the idea to record "what?" for
the courtesy tone. The first few users were confused, but soon everyone
caught on. A few weeks later, he recorded a number of different tracks that
would "rotate" as the courtesy message, including "say again?", "didn't copy
that", "you're all noise", "was that you, Joe?" etc. Got to be annoying
after a few hours, but was pretty funny.
