Vern, The TS64 can work very well to supply both tone decode and tone encode
for a Mastr II mobile that has been converted to a repeater. A couple of
things to keep in mind:

The transmit tone can be keyed such that the tone is only transmitted while
there is a user signal on the input of the repeater. The squelch tail and
courtesy beep would not have a transmit tone and the ID would not have a
transmit tone. This should be done so that if you ever want to do an in-band
link of any kind to the repeater, the link set up will be much simpler.

The other thing to keep in mind is that on most controllers, the received tone
will be fed through to the output of the repeater and will be mixed with the
tone generated by the TS64. The TS64 has a high pass filter incorporated to
prevent this from happening. The TS64 should use the vol/sq high signal as
it's input and the output of the TS64 high pass filter should be routed to the
input of your controller. (The controller should provide for deemphasis of the
audio)

If the feed through tone and the generated tone are allowed to mix, the output
will usually be a tone that varies in deviation as the tone on the input and
the tone from the TS64 go in and out of phase. Tone generators are pretty
accurate, but are never accurate enough to keep the slow beat from happening.

Using the above connection will allow a user to turn on the tone decode in the
user radio and the user will no longer hear the ID unless it occurs during a
transmission, and when the repeater stands down the user radio will already be
squelched so no squelch crash will be generated.

So the question is for the money what is the best tone
board to use on a MastrII mobile repeater. My first
thought is the ComSpecs TS64. Is this the right thought
or should I be looking somewhere else? How hard is this
going to be to install and is there anything I need to
 watch out for?

 Thanks,
