I put up a 5000 about 6 months ago and it works well but you are correct in that the ctcss deviation is not adjustable separately. Mine runs around 900hz also with the total with voice set at 4.9khz. Nobody notices a hum though. wb5oxq

It is TOTAL deviation. You should be staying under, really, 4.7-4.8 for ALL audio, WITH CTCSS running...just checking... That said, I remember hearing on a list that the ratio is fixed. Chances are, if you are getting 900 KHz of PL, your voice deviation is too high too.
