If you do go with a side mount fiberglass antenna, be sure to get an outrigger arm for the top. It will prevent the top from blowing in the breeze. I have seen more problems in fiberglass antennas where they were only clamped at the base. The internal connections which are soldered don't hold up to the constant flexing.
