Budd,

Check with the Amateur Radio Sales Rep at Telewave, to see what it will cost
to re-manufacture your TPRD-1554 duplexer into a TPRD-2254 unit. This will
involve shortening both the cylinder itself and the center tuning assembly
in each cavity, and replacement of the cable harness. Most of the parts can
be re-used after modification, so the cost of the conversion should be
considerably less than the cost of a new duplexer, plus you get a unit with
a guarantee and tuned to your precise frequency pair. A new TPRD-2254
duplexer costs about $950 with the Ham discount.

Perhaps your first step should be to contact Telewave and ask, "What parts
do I need to convert my TPRD-1554 into a TPRD-2254?" Once you recover from
the answer, then ask "How much will you charge to perform the conversion and
tune it up to my pair?" Shortening the cavity and internals with a hacksaw
(preferably a metal-cutting bandsaw) is relatively easy, but modifying the
coupling loops and the cable harness is time-consuming and requires a
network analyzer to perform properly. Being a lazy person, I would rather
let Telewave do the job, since they have the parts, the expertise, and the
test equipment to do it right.

If your TPRD-1554 duplexers are currently in the commercial band, they will
need to be modified to work properly at 2m- which may not be possible. I
bought a TPRD-1454 duplexer for a 2m repeater a while back, and it is about
two inches taller than the TPRD-1554 unit. A TPRD-1554 might work okay on a
147 MHz pair, but probably not on a 145 MHz pair.

Subject: [Repeater-Builder] Anyone been able to use Telewave TPRD-1554 on
222 MHz?

A couple of sets of TPRD-1554 were made available to us. Their stock
bandwidth is 140-180 MHz. Wondering if we can get up to 222 MHz range?
