There were on repeaters. They started out fine. As time passed I noticed that the SWR was up slightly. It ended up being the ICE protector. There were Polyphasers on other cables on the panel that were just fine. I've had two do this to me and a friend had one do the same thing. I'm not sold on them.
Did they take a hit? Who knows. Seems odd that the other devices appeared to be just fine. However, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say what the failure mode is. I'm assuming it to be a short, or at least a huge bump in SWR.
