Instead of going through all of that trouble, why don't you find/buy a 
150.8-174 MHz range PA? They work GREAT in the ham band even though they 
are not spec'd for operation there. You can usually pick them up fairly 
cheap since they were one of the most popular bandsplits.

I have several pulls around here that I'd be willing to sell for about 
$20 each plus shipping. It would sure save you a lot of time and effort 
troubleshooting and swapping out parts.
