We had the same situation here in Wisconsin. AT&T put in a fiber optic network, so I went with it. I used a Linksys router, model WRT54G (2.4Ghz 802.11g) in conjunction with it and placed it in the attic of the house. I've got laptop coverage for over a 1/4 of a mile here in the sub division. Works really well, plus you can password protect the connection so only you have use to it.
If your daughter doesn't have a wireless laptop you can buy an internet adapter that allows desktops and other systems to receive the WI-FI. You can buy these routers for < $100.00 almost anywhere. Just do a google search on the model number.
