Frank, We had the same problem with some of our units. What we found was there was a problem with the audio amp. Some of the acid got to the traces and caused problems with the data signals to the audio amp.
We removed the audio amp, cleaned the board, replaced the amp, and most of the time the problem cleared up. The times it did not, we found other damage in other areas. Hard to find, but if you use a little BLACK LIGHT you should be able to find all the acid. Cleaning it can be a very hard problem. Good luck.
