No, the data on the internal storage is lost as well when following the installation instructions! I changed the instructions some time ago and they include a full factory reset at the end now. I did the change because I'm suspecting that keeping the partition with an old partitioning could be a reason why encrypting the device fails for some users. And the gallery app seems to crash when handling some of the preview files that were generated by stock Android.
