Yes, Replicant 9 will greatly improve on this area.

On the development build, software rendering is already working a bit
faster than on Replicant 6 (
https://grimkriegor.zalkeen.net/public/alaunch.mp4 ) and we should be
able to squeeze some more performance out of it.

Better still, it will use hardware acceleration, through the Mesa Lima
driver, on the i9300 and other phones with a Mali 4xx GPU (
http://www.belg.in/replicant_9.webm ).
