> Is this the best device you could recommend? Yes. The i9300 is currently supported on Replicant 6 and will be most surely supported on Replicant 9, as it is the device where Replicant 9 is being developed upon. You can also try the N7100 (Samsung Galaxy Note 2), which is supported on Replicant 6, and may be supported on 9 as it is similar to the i9300. However the i9300 is the safest bet.
> What about Librem5 or PinePhone? Those phones are not even complete hardware-wise much less software-wise. If you purchase any of those you'll have to assume the risk of buying a piece of hardware that so far is nothing but a toy for developers. They may turn out to be nothing but a paperweight for end-users. That said, if you end up going that alley, the best option so far is the PinePhone. Its hardware and software are closer to working condition, and one Replicant contributor should be getting or already got one prototype. Still, it will take a big development effort until it can properly run Replicant. My personal advice, unless you wish/can help on the development effort, would be to only purchase it once there is a working Replicant port. _______________________________________________ Replicant mailing list [email protected] https://lists.osuosl.org/mailman/listinfo/replicant
