I believe Dedeco is trying to keep using a stock Android system that
came with a mainstream phone and just replace some of its stock malware
apps with equivalents that are typically used with Replicant.

Or at least this is the impression one gets from Dedeco's "Or am I
searching in the wrong place? f-droid.org?" question :)

Dedeco, I'd try looking for yet another app that can utilize root
access to remove other apps. A quick search gave me this[1]. Not tested
(as right now I don't even have an Android device to test with).

Be sure you'll need to have your phone rooted to succeed this way.
Alternatively, wou might also be able to remove system apps from ADB
shell. This — on the other hand — will require you to have an unlocked
bootloader on your phone (at which point you're already able to root
the device anyway).

Good luck :)
