I've just finished reporting a bug in Konqueror - I'm pretty sure the
bug I reported wasn't a repeat of any of the first 200 in the archive,
but the last 400 kind of blurred together. For packages with a lot of
bugs open at any given time, it would be very useful to have ways of
cutting down the number of bugs you need to read. Konqueror in
particular suffers because some general KDE bugs seem to be included
along with Konqueror-specific bugs.
One useful trick would be if you could search through bug reports with
'/', like in less, although that doesn't really fit with reportbug's style.
The bug I wanted to report involved Konqueror crashing when it reloaded
a particular page. It would be very useful if I could automatically
filter out those bugs that didn't cause crashes, or look first at bugs
that involved loading pages.
To that end, it would be very useful if, when reportbug started, it
asked questions like "does the program start correctly?" "does the
program crash?" "are you requesting a new feature?" etc., which could
then be used to filter the bugs you're shown. Obviously this would
require a major change to the whole structure of the program, but I
think it would be worth it in the long-run. The information provided at
the start would also help everyone to organise bugs down the line -
bugs that request new features can automatically be tagged as wishlist
items, developers can look at crash bugs before other bugs, no matter
the priority level.
