Subject: reportbug: sending by email fails, misc. issues
Package: reportbug
Version: 4.12.6
Severity: normal
when choosing the automatic debian smtp send email option, email
sending fails. when choosing my ISPs smtp address, UID, p/w, etc.,
email sending fails both the cancel and continue buttons have "C"
underlined. this usually means a user can hold ctrl and hit C rather
than having to mouse click the button. so those shortcuts fail, but
clicking on them works. This package is a great idea and I really
appreciate it, but if you want the majority of desktop users to use it
you have to simplify it a little more. Using abbreviations such as MTA
and MUA will just confuse the average user and cause them to give up.
Of course this will mean Debian will have fewer bug reports to squash.
The majority of desktop users will get frustrated by reportbug and the
bug reporting process and just give up and so Debian will never hear
from most of them when they have a problem. If there are too many of
these bugs/problems, they'll just give up and go back to widows and mac.
Thanks again for a great tool, hope you can make it a little easier and
more reliable for us noobs,
Jim

you should configure it correctly. if you don't, don't expect it to
work. Oh, and how did you send this report?

there is already a bug report about it, and will get fixed.

if you don't know something, document yourself about it. If you give
up, it's your fault.

if you can't stand it, then it's unlikely you'll be able to report a
valuable report and following it up, so consider it a lower barrier
you don't like to pass. That's fine, but there's nothing in reportbug
will do about it: closing this report.
