Package: reportbug
Version: 6.4.4
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
I installed debian, and tried to run reportbug. When you initially boot it, it
hasn't got a GUI, and instructs you to install one - then again with a spell-
checker. Both of these things are quite off-putting, and discourage people from
reporting minor bugs. I know it isn't a one off as I have had it installing
debian several times. Reportbug currently is not easy or stable enough to
encourage novice users from reporting the small issues that can make debian
difficult for un-technical users. This is a hurdle itself to overcome, but it
also probably contributes to lots of the issues with the GUI not being delt
with, as more technical users are happy to use the CLI instead, so problems are
overlooked. A better approach would be to automatically install the two
dependencies (python-gtkspell is one of them i think, can't remember, although
it says), and offer the CLI/ inform people of how to use it, when launching
that way. This would be an important starting point to fixing the many bugs and
usability issues in reportbug's interface, rather than ignoring them.

Hello,
this has already been discussed in the past, but no that's not going to happen.
having a higher bar is helpful to reduce user configuration mixups
reported as bugs: developers time is rare and precious and should be
preserved.
Regards,
