Can you get around the problem by creating a 'virtualenv', installing
the doc pacakges there, and using its python to drive the doc building?

I don't know of any problem like that:  the
'repoze.sphinx.autointerface' package correctly declares that 'repoze'
and 'repoze.sphinx' are namespace packages.
