The purpose of this project is to facilitate national discovery of scientific resources by scientists and students, in order to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific exchange. The project involves some of the world’s top medical professors and researchers. Our client will lead eight institutions of different sizes, geographical location, and culture to build and implement a federated national informatics network that will allow any investigator across America to discover research resources that are presently invisible. Postdoctoral research associates, known as Resource Navigators, will collect and inventory the research resources at the nine participating institutions by visiting laboratories, core facilities, shared resource centers, and central offices in person and through online searches to generate the raw data needed to create a comprehensive research resource inventory. The information collected by the Resource Navigators will fill a new, comprehensive data query system that will permit investigators at the participating sites to search for research resources at any of the federated sites. Reporting to the Data Management Curation Tools Lead and Architect, *this Software Engineer will work closely with other members of the Data Tools team to develop and release data collection, management and curation tools used within the project. * *These tools perform the critical function of extracting data from existing sources and importing it into the project systems (Inventory System). * These tools will be used by researchers who presently have the resource data, data entry project staff and project staff focused on indexing/curating the final data records. The tools will be web based and must be both easy to use and powerful in fully expressing the descriptive information about a resource within the standard data models and controlled indexing models. Each resource type may have unique meta-data and indexing ontologies. The tools must also implement methods to maintain data over time with ongoing updates from the original data sources. *The tools will be implemented in both server side and browser side functionality.* The Software Engineer-Data Tools will be a member of the Data Tools team of software developers and will work with other teams of developers, content managers, researchers and database managers in order to analyze user requirements, develop architectures, develop project plans and execute those plans. This person will be responsible for all phases of the application development life cycle including: prototyping, requirements gathering, functional specifications, design, iterative execution, unit/integration/system testing and release management.
