Sr. System SQL DBA Architect candidate for our Client in Lee’s Summit. This would be a 12 month contract. They will be responsible for the design, administration and operation of the SQL system. They have a large successful IT department. The company’s benefits are amazing. Summary Designs, develops and supports database implementations to meet business needs of our Client. Concentrates on providing solutions and support for availability and integrity of data. May serve in the role of Project Lead for database development projects. Plans and coordinates activities and processes used in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). Works closely with Information Services management team and Application Development staff to ensure database operational continuity/availability, integrity, recovery, and security. Develops and maintains policies and procedures for ensuring secure access to production system information. Duties and Responsibilities Monitors databases for optimal performance and act to mitigate blocking and performance tuning issues. Provides guidance to Application Development staff for query, stored procedures, functions and database design. Designs, implements, and maintains data reporting systems, data modeling, and access security. Designs, implements, and maintain data warehouse structures. Designs, implements, and maintains production batch and scheduling systems: Extract Transform Load (ETL) processing. Implement, maintain database backups and recovery: encryption, compression, tape schedules. Design, implement, and maintain data structures that support high availability and disaster recovery. Designs implements, and maintains phased environment control (non-production environment isolation) and migration processes; utilizes change control and configuration management processes. Analyzes existing applications and databases and recommends improvements. Performs business analysis and gathers requirements to support delivery of cost-effective recommendations for project implementations, future enhancements and alternative solutions. Creates and maintains policies and procedures, implementation plans, and recovery documentation. Communicates status and findings to management. Identify and evaluate industry trends for future enhancements. Desired Skills & Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems and five years of work experience in database administration or systems development, including mastery of relational database systems (Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc), Structured Query Language, Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and tools, stored procedures and functions, logical database design, query and index tuning, data warehouse structures, reporting systems, and data modeling. Must have experience with server operating systems (Microsoft Windows and/or Linux/UNIX), server hardware and data storage (SAN, RAID, etc), physical database design, network topologies, system security, system monitoring, Shell scripting (VBS, UNIX, DOS), and Project/Software development and management methodologies. Additional years of qualifying work experience or relevant technical certification may be considered in lieu of education. Also requires ability to use a personal computer, effective organizational skills, and effective verbal and written communications skills to work with outside vendors, user departments and management.
