Yes, the `-fPIC' switch would get it complied on a 64-bit system, but it
would still fail on a 32-bit one. To get it built on a 32-bit system,
you would do:
$(apr-config --cflags --cppflags) ./configure --with-OTHER-OPTIONS
which also works on a 64-bit one.
