Hello, As a few of you may remember I have discussed here and on the Developers Discussions Forum within RS about my interest in extending RS with a SSH plugin that will allow friends to SSH into remote machines connected via Retroshare. This would hopefully be interesting to the RS community as well as my open source eBrain project (https://www.ebrain.in/) that I hope will one day work atop Retroshare and other services.
As to the status of this plugin, the code works for text only applications but fails for X over SSH. After many rewrites and moments of self-doubt where I have tried to isolate bottlenecks in my own code, I have finally concluded that this plugin needs to be working outside the X session. The problem in brief is that when I am doing X over SSH over RS, sporadically the entire X session freezes on the ssh client side. This maybe because the X server is waiting for some other information but since Retroshare itself is in this X session the freeze means no further data can pass through RS and the entire session remains frozen till I kill the SSH client or RS itself. Also corroborating my above hypothesis is that if I launch a separate X Server like Xephyr and then redirect the forwarded X output to that server i.e. RS and my ssh client are in one X server and the X application is output to another X server. All works well. To further test this hypothesis I need to create a plugin over the retroshare-service since retroshare-nogui is now deprecated. This brings me to the second bit in which I need your help. For some reason I can no longer see online the friends I have on RS that gave me access to the developer's discussion forum. The Just Relay It relay is also down. So I need to make more friends so I can get back into RS and talk on the Developer's Discussion :) Gio has been kind enough to share his key once again with me and also to point me to the chatserver at http://margaretsanger.elrepo.io/ but exchanging keys with this chat server doesn't give me access to the chat lobbies where I hope to find some of the developers and request them to add me :) The chatserver at retroshare.ch is down for maintenance and the PirateParty chat server doesn't seem to work either.
