I have a group showing this behavior too. I'm using 1.6.11. Problem only seems to occur with this one group and impacts multiple user. Browser is not significant as counts are handled server side.
I have a backup of the system on a test system that does not show this issue (but the data is different so this probably isn't a good comparison but it does seem to indicate this may be data related).
It looks like like counts are coming out of the datagrid component, so I'm not sure how to run the same query in a manage shell.
