Also, I realize that my referral to Dremel's striping terminology might be 
confusing.

Essentially, I was trying to say that for supporting arbitrary nesting of 
various types it's necessary to perform striping the data across multiple data 
blocks upon storing it on disk, and stitching it together when reading it back. 
 That's an additional logical level that's currently missing and it's not 
trivial to implement.
