Personally this looks OK to me, reasonable and small change. While I agree this is too ad-hoc, I also agree failing with improper error message is bad, especially when the error points "codegen" which end users don't want to take a look. @srowen @dongjoon-hyun @HyukjinKwon Would you mind to revisit this?
