    For the `k` vs other params - I'm ok with just setting `k`. I do agree that 
in most cases the other params may be different (in fact likely different from 
both the defaults and initial model for warm-start scenarios).
    The only thing to consider is we will then need to make a decision for each 
estimator what the behavior is. This may be fine - even desirable. But it is 
also an option to default to overriding everything, making it more generic to 
implement for other estimators.
    I don't have a very strong feeling either way though.
