century view of the world, Plektrum forms in Estonia and in the Baltic
region a unique gathering
point constantly delivering ideas, instruments and possibilities for

by diverse groups and communities in the forms of large scale public media
art and installations
and exhibitions, workshops, theoretical seminars and artist talks, but
also club nights, electronic
music and VJ performances and much more.
Historically Plektrum has paid attention to diverse range of issues
from„Creative cities“ (2006),
to „My space and Beat & Motion (2007), and “Hidden Space” (2008).
CALL FOR ENTRIES
The curators of Plektrum Festival announce the open call for video based
artworks for 2009
edition's exhibition program under the title “Where is virtuality”.
THEME
As of today we have come to a point where living in or with virtuality has
become normality. We
talk about virtual reality, e-states, social networks, second lives, and
digital interactivity as their
presence is an inseparable part of our life. Although these terms seem
already natural and the
transparency of computer technology makes way to a belief that we're being
constantly
immersed into virtuality, going into a deeper level of experiencing this
virtuality still opens up
difficult questions not yet fully understood. What really is this
virtuality? Where lie its actual
appearances and what are are the characteristics of the space in-between
virtual and real? How
has virtuality as such been affecting our actions towards life in the
reality?
Based on the previous Plektrum Festival 2009 tries to find credible proofs
for (digital) virtuality
that seems so commonplace in our so-called computer society and questions
myths about our
virtually directed world. We're looking an answer to the two-sided
question „Where is virtuality?"
– Where has it brought us? Where is its actual presence?
