URGENT CALL: APPLICATIONS FOR RESIDENCY IN TALLINN IN SUMMER 2009
We are happy to announce a call for applications
for residency at the Kanuti Gildi SAAL located in
the centre of the Old Town of Tallinn.
WHAT:
Residencies for professional artists and other
art professionals from Nordic and/or Baltic
states in the field of contemporary dance, new
media, electronic music.
2 month working stay providing conditions such
as: an opportunity for concentrated work,
meetings between professional artists, contacts
to the art field in the surrounding area, access
to the current local artistic discourse and
professional conditions for a productive working
situation. Offering artists a chance to get
acquainted with the local art scene without the
pre-obligation to work together, but still
providing a base for any kind of further
collaborations leaving the initiative to the
artists.
In 2009 the residencies are financed by the
Nordic Culture Point via the Nordic-Baltic
Mobility Programme for Culture Residency Module.
WHO:
Artists and other art professionals from the
Nordic and Baltic countries (This means that they
have to be living in one of these countries. So
for example, if the Brazilian artist is living in
on of these countries he/she can be invited. But
not if he/she lives in Brazil.)
Criteria for the selection is based on the
application and dialogue between the team of
Kanuti Gildi SAAL and artists. As hosts we do not
expect the artists to come with or to make a
ready-made product. We value the researches and
pursuits of an artist.
WHEN:
A maximum of 2 month stay between June 08 - August 14, 2009
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Kanuti Gildi SAAL has three working spaces: main
stage (measuring 10x10x6,5), studio (measuring
6x10x3,5) and cellar hall (measuring 8x6x3,5 with
pillar in the middle of the room). Main stage and
studio have wooden floor, all spaces have dance
floor covering. Main stage has basic technical
equipment needed for producing a performance.
Other technical needs can be solved and
additional equipment arranged within reason in
dialogue with the staff..
There is also a possibility to make sound
recordings at the sound studio located in the
venue upon previous agreement.
Apartments for lodging of the residents are
usually rental apartments within walking distance
from the venue.
EXPENSES COVERED:
We cover travel expenses, lodging, per diems, and
other costs directly related to the artists´
activities during the residence period within
reason and upon previous agreement with the team
of Kanuti Gildi SAAL.
WHERE:
Kanuti Gildi SAAL is the 1st production/event
house in Estonia devoted exclusively to the genre
of contemporary dance & related arts. It is
artist oriented & valuing artistic work-process &
has been offering residencies in various forms
for local and foreign artists since it was
established in 2002.
The work of Kanuti Gildi SAAL is based on the
orientation on the artist, therefore our aim is
to be a "working house". The residencies in
Kanuti Gildi SAAL are mainly research based. Our
intention is to exclude the strain of producing a
product from the artist, but we are willing to
arrange showings, discussions etc to include the
perspective of audience into the working-process
if needed.
