At the moment, it's problematic just getting X to work on a T7200 Dell
with an Intel i810 driver (the only thing which worked was running
system-config-display remotely).
I also asked around locally (UW Seattle) and got a few helpful links.
This page from early October 2006 documents a Debian install:
http://www.oakcourt.dyndns.org/%7Eandrew/wiki/index.php/DebianOnIntel965#Graphics
For 3D graphics, he mentions that he needed updated 3D drivers from
http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/download.html (Freedesktop git snapshot) and
a CVS version of Mesa; 3D bugs are being tracked here:
"Compiz+AIGLX does not work correctly on i965"
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8155
In all I'd say support is very close but like a lot of new hardware it required
code changes in several places. The RHEL5 kernel seems new enough;
I just hope the DRM driver and Mesa will make it in. If not maybe by FC7. :(
