Just a guess, but it's normally the -devel packages that create those
symlinks. Have you installed kdebase-devel?

No, I haven't. And the devel package contains the link. Apparently I
don't need any headers from this package to build. Leaves me wondering
why it needs to link with -lkonq. Thanks for the help.
