Hi,

    yes you can install Windows (XP/2003) guest as a HVM guest on RHEL5 Beta 2.
    They magic "key" is to press F6/F5 to select a different HAL/HW (choose Standard PC) and to
    manually re-add the CDrom line to your config file before you reboot the guest to resume the
    installation.
    I've been using the following line for my Windows installations which has worked well so far :)
    disk = [ 'file:/xen/guests/win2003sp1.dsk,hda,w','file:/xen/trees/ISO/WIN/en_windows_server_2003_with_sp1_standard.iso,hdc:cdrom,r', ]
    and I also added the following line just to be sure ....
    cdrom="/xen/trees/ISO/WIN/en_windows_server_2003_with_sp1_standard.iso"

    After you added the above lines to the guest config file in /etc/xen/YourWIndowsGurestName you just restart your guest using
    "xm create YourWindowsGuest" and the installation should continue .

Just for my own edification, has anyone managed to install a fully virtualized DomU with WinXP or Windows 2003??

I cant seem to get one to install completely which is quite frustrating.

I can get virt-manager to create the DomU, and it does begin installing from CD, but after the Windows installer copies all its files, it reboots to load the full installer and at that point it fails because it can no longer see the CD. I have tried adding a cdrom line that points to /dev/hdc and then tried one that pointed to /media/cdrom after mounting the cdrom to that mt. point, but no joy.

So anyone try this, or am I just insane? Of course, my network installed RHEL5 DomUs work perfectly. I haven't tried any other OSs yet. Is there a list of supported OSs available anywhere on Red Hat.com yet??

Cheers
Jeff
