To get my T42p to hibernate and resume properly on FC6, I had to add "
acpi_sleep=s3_bios" to the kernel boot options in /boot/grub/grub.conf.
I have not yet tried RHEL 5 on this laptop, but I imagine I'll come
across the same issue.
