I understand this part.  I am passing the pci card through to the paravirtualized instance.

Shouldn't you be able to compile and use additional devices you pass through?

Because in a domU, you're using a virtualized network interface, not a
real one.

# grep eth0 /etc/modprobe.conf
alias eth0 xennet
