I've had the same issue on a dell 2950 with 2 dual core intel processors
and exactly 4GB of ram.
I faulted to redhat and after much headbanging all they came up with was
to use the xen or pae kernel, as there is very little in the bios you
can change. but be sure to use the latest bios firmware with your
motherboard.
I had a big argument with them as if i use rhel4 all appears normal, but
rhel 5 32 and 64 bit versions still show 3.2Gb ram.
I tried fedora 6 and knoppix with similar results, only difference
kernel wise was the 2.4 kernel vs 2.6
havn't tried rhel4 update 5 as this issue was prior to that release.
