The problem stemmed from the fact that I was using a thumbdrive to boot (and install from). The machine identified the thumbdrive as sda, and decided that it should be first in the boot order rather than cciss/c0d0, which was really first in boot order. It was writing the MBR on the thumb drive, then, not on the hard drive.
The fix was to change the bootloader line in my kickstart file from: bootloader --location=mbr to: bootloader --location=mbr --driveorder=cciss/c0d0,sda You can also do this in the graphical installer by changing the drive order in the advanced GRUB config screen. Hope that helps someone else with this problem! I am attempting to install RHEL5 on an HP DL145 G3 with SAS drives. I have successfully installed it on DL145 G3s with SATA drives and DL140 G3s with SAS drives, but this combination is eluding me. The install appears to proceed successfully, but when I reboot the machine after install, I just get a blinking cursor where normally I should get a GRUB screen. The BIOS and array controller are both in their factory state. Thoughts? Thanks!
