Hi, I recently upgraded a bunch of packages on my RHEL5 system,
including the kernel (now at 2.6.18-8.1.10.el5). When I rebooted after
that update yesterday, everything seemed fine. But logwatch caught the
following that night:
--------------------- Smartd Begin ------------------------
Wrong configuration for devices:
/dev/sda: 1 Time(s)
**Unmatched Entries**
Device: /dev/sda, IE (SMART) not enabled, skip device Try 'smartctl -s on /dev/sda' to turn on SMART features

Unable to register SCSI device /dev/sdb at line 2 of file /etc/smartd.conf

---------------------- Smartd End -------------------------
(I have two identical SATA drives on the machine.) I've never had to
deal with smartd before, and haven't touched the defaults, but a bit of
poking around found the following bits of information. First, my
/etc/smartd.conf:
/dev/sda -H -m [EMAIL PROTECTED]
/dev/sdb -H -m [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Next, the output of # smartctl -i /dev/sda -d ata

That's weird. Smartctl thinks that SMART support is enabled, but smartd
apparently didn't during boot time? What gives?
I think what I want is for smartd to start up without whining, and for
it to email me if there's trouble, and for it to properly log to
messages... How do I make sure that it's working correctly?
